2010 Programs
Unless otherwise indicated, all meetings begin at 10 a.m. and are held at the Winfield Public Library (0S291 Winfield Rd., Winfield, IL 60190; 1/2 mile north of Roosevelt Rd.)
January 23 — Fiber potpourri: 2009 fiber swap wrap-up; painted wool discussion; additional planning for 2010; open spin. Program leaders: Mary Coen, Julie Guise, Marcie Reid, and Kathy Thomas. Bring your spinning wheel and some fiber, or another project, to work on while we talk.
February 27 — Spinning thick yarns. Program leader: Patsy Zawistoski. Fiber/handout fee: $4, payable at the meeting. Bring your spinning wheel with the slowest speed.
March 27 — Blending and carding. Program leader: Sherry Johnson.
April 24 — Bamboo, blends, and beyond. What is bamboo? Is it the green fiber of the future, or just another kind of viscose? This program will focus on pure bamboo and bamboo blends available to spinners. Learn lots about this new spinning fiber—try silky, lustrous, pure bamboo and some fun bamboo blends. Tips on spinning nice yarns, dyeing bamboo, and more! You'll get plenty of samples to spin along with handouts. (Fiber fee of $5 payable at the meeting.) Bring your wheel set up for fine spinning. May 21-23 — Spring retreat at Reynoldswood Christian Camp and Retreat Center in Dixon, IL. The $83 fee includes lodging and four meals. Registration is due by May 5, 2010. Registration forms were sent to guild members in March. if you need one.
May 22 — Meeting at the Reynoldswood Christian Camp and Retreat Center in Dixon, IL.
June 26 — Natural dye workshop with Dagmar Klos from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Fine Line Creative Arts Center in St. Charles, IL. $75 for 2010 members of Illinois Prairie Spinners. After May 1, 2010, nonmembers may register for $90. The cost includes dyes and 51 premordanted skeins of wool. You must register by June 1, 2010. The workshop brochure was sent to guild members in March. if you need one.
July — No meeting
August — No meeting
September 25 — Spindle spinning and chain plying, with a discussion of the history of spinning. Program leader: Wendy Shearer. Location to be announced.
October 23 — Troubleshooting and fixing mistakes. Program leader: Mary Coen. Location to be announced.
November 13 — Annual planning meeting/potluck lunch/Show & Tell prize drawing. At a member's home in Winfield, IL.
December — No meeting
